The NC AHEC Program is committed to expanding the development of activities, which serves to increase the representation of minority populations in all health careers. Health Careers and Workforce Diversity has Five Core Functions Information and Material Dissemination / Development, Health Careers Enrichment and Exposure Activities, Cultural Diversity and Cultural Competency, Partnering and Collaboration, and Regional and Statewide Tracking/Evaluation.

Health Academy Summer Experience
A one-week summer program for students who are in enrolled in grades 9-11. During the program students conduct scientific research; participate in Health and Leadership workshops; visit medical schools; and shadow health professionals at the local hospital.
Lending Library
A collection of audiovisual, books and CD-ROM programs are available for checkout to counselors, teacher, students and other persons working with student groups. These materials target students’ middle through high school and college to introduce students to health professions or prepare students for a career in health. This collection is available at SR-AHEC. |
The Health Careers Puppet Bunch
This 30-minute multi-media presentation has been designed to increase awareness about health careers and healthy behaviors in young learners (1st and 2nd graders). The program features The Health Careers Puppet Bunch, a set of eight puppets, in a puppet show and video. At the conclusion of the workshop, each student receives a health careers puppet bunch coloring sheet.

(Teaching Excellence for a Career in Health)
Teach Brochure
This exciting program is for grades 6-12 who have an
interest in health careers. The program is held one
evening a month from 6-8 pm. Students will meet
healthcare professionals; participate in math and
science enrichment and various workshops to expose them
to opportunities in health careers.
Project REACH (Reaching and Educating Adolescents in Careers in Health) Math and Science Camp
A one-week summer camp designed to introduce rising 7th and 8th grade students to careers in health in relation to math and science. During the program students are introduced to Environmental Health, Adolescent Health, Biotechnology, Team Building and Leadership.
